Keen Street Clinic

Help when needed most

In 2022, Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales were hit by flood. Homes, businesses, and livelihoods were destroyed, and tens of thousands were evacuated.

One GP practice that lost everything was the Keen Street Medical Practice in Lismore.

The surgery was inundated with water, with extensive damage to equipment, including computers and medical records. Upon hearing the news of the tragic flooding, Rural Doctors Foundation sprang into action and pledged to help. We launched an appeal within 24 hours of the crisis. With the generosity of our supporters, we were able to provide funding to rural practices to assist in rebuilding their practice and restocking vital supplies and equipment.

Our support for Keen Street Clinic provided new examination tables and we connected practices who were not impacted by the flood who donated much needed equipment to Keen Street Medical Practice. This enabled them to offer consistency of medical services for their community through this crisis.

During a webinar organised by Rural Doctors Foundation, Dr Bruce Chater observed, “remembering that for some of your patients, that lost their livelihoods, the clinic is a special place where they look after you and you look after them”.
