Going through hell to raise funds for Rural Doctors Foundation
They are hellish weekends – with an amazing atmosphere and support of the community.
In the true spirit of a rural community, three Goondiwindi locals decided to pay it forward. The Goondiwindi triathlon club received a defibrillator from Rural Doctors Foundation and they wanted to show their appreciation.
Three doctors from Goondiwindi Medical Centre – Anna Carswell, Sarah Gleeson and Matt Masel chose to participate in Hell of the West team event. It started with Matt swimming 2km in the cold of the morning, Sarah riding 80km through the heat and Anna finishing with a 20km run just when the heat started to feel hellish!
The following year, these three dedicated doctors were joined by two triathletes, Aaron and Zac Cunningham.
Together, their efforts raised $12,000 to provide medical equipment to rural communities.
