Leaving a legacy of lasting impact
Thank you, Dr Margaret Kay
After nearly three years of dedicated service, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr Margaret Kay for her outstanding contribution as Medical Director of the GPs4RuralDocs program.
From the very beginning, Margaret played a pivotal role in shaping GPs4RuralDocs into the strong, credible and trusted program it is today. She established the clinical and governance framework that underpins the program, ensuring that it met the highest standards of safety, accountability and professional integrity. This work laid a solid foundation for growth and sustainability and has been critical to the program’s success.
Throughout her tenure, Margaret navigated a constantly shifting environment with clarity and resolve. She faced each new challenge – particularly those arising from ongoing Medicare changes and the complexities of building a tailored GP care program from scratch – with pragmatism, insight and an unwavering commitment to supporting rural doctors, nurses and health practitioners. Her leadership ensured that the program remained responsive, compliant and patient-focused, while always keeping the wellbeing of participants at the centre of decision-making.
Bringing compassion to clinical care
Beyond systems and structures, what truly set Margaret apart was the warmth she brought to her role. Her generosity of spirit, approachability and genuine care for colleagues and rural practitioners alike shaped the culture of GPs4RuralDocs. Margaret’s calm presence, thoughtful advice and willingness to listen made a lasting impression on everyone who worked with her and on those supported through the program.
Dr Kay’s contribution has been instrumental in establishing GPs4RuralDocs as a valued and trusted source of confidential healthcare and support for rural health practitioners.
Her legacy will continue to guide the program well into the future.
