Vorotek Ear Loupe in use with patient

Free ear loupes for rural Queensland

A generous grant from the QCoal Foundation

Rural Doctors Foundation is proud to acknowledge the generous support of the QCoal Foundation Community Grant Program, which is helping bring safer, pain-free ear care to rural communities in Central Queensland. Through this support, GP practices in Bowen, Collinsville and Emerald now have the opportunity to apply for a free ear loupe and microsuction start-up package for their clinical team.

A practical solution, delivered locally

With funding from the QCoal Foundation, Rural Doctors Foundation is delivering the Improving Rural Ear Disease Care project. The initiative equips four rural GP practices with high‑quality ear loupes and microsuction equipment.  These portable tools enable:
  • Early and accurate diagnosis of ear disease
  • Pain‑free, culturally safe ear care
  • Reduced need for specialist referrals and long‑distance travel
  • Stronger trust between patients and local healthcare teams
Designed for durability and long‑term use, the equipment will provide lasting benefit to patients in these communities, and embedding skills and capability in GP practices.

Calling GP practices in Bowen, Collinsville and Emerald

GP practices located in Emerald, Collinsville or Bowen are invited to apply to receive a free ear loupe package  as part of this project. Practices selected will receive:
  • An ear loupe and microsuction start‑up package
  • Training in safe, modern ear care techniques
  • Ongoing support from Rural Doctors Foundation
This is an opportunity to strengthen local services, improve patient experience and help prevent lifelong hearing loss – especially for children – by delivering care close to home.

Proudly supported by QCoal Foundation Community Grant Program

Rural Doctors Foundation gratefully acknowledges the QCoal Foundation for its commitment to building vibrant, liveable and healthy rural communities. This project reflects a shared vision: improving access to essential healthcare services and supporting rural clinicians to deliver the best possible care where it is needed most.
