Volunteer with Us

Lend a hand to help rural and remote health.

Volunteer your time in order to help save more lives in rural and remote communities in Queensland. We’re a grassroots organisation, and volunteering for Rural Doctors Foundation can make a really big difference. And there is so much more we need to do. If you live in a rural or remote area, you’ll know just what we mean. It’s a rewarding life in the country but gee it’s tough at times. When it comes to health, it could be much better.

Why you’re needed

If you don’t live in the country, here are some figures that might surprise you. The mortality rates are 1.8 times what they are in the city. People in rural and remote areas also live shorter lives and have higher rates of disease and injury. 3 in 5 people don’t see a specialist when they should. Mostly, because there isn’t one around. You see, people in rural and remote areas are at risk every day.

It doesn’t take much to make a big difference

With the gap so wide, rural, and remote volunteering can make a really big impact in the lives of the community. Do you have a medical background? Or instead, maybe you have a business background? From helping us deliver our lifesaving programs to helping out with administration, to taking health checks and everything in between. Your help is valued and appreciated.

Plus, volunteering is very rewarding

Volunteering could be the start of something significant in your life, just as it has been in ours. Rural Doctors Foundation are a volunteer board. So, just like you, we care a whole lot about giving rural and remote communities every chance. And also saving more lives in the country. Being able to be a part of making a tangible difference to people’s lives and futures feels great. Seeing improvements to our own communities. As well as seeing the changes we make to places all around the State.

Donating your time to improve rural health outcomes can be valuable to us, and even more rewarding for you.

“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they have the heart.”

– Elizabeth Andrew

Provide health checks at rural events

We offer free health checks to those living in rural and remote communities. We welcome the assistance of volunteer doctors or medical students.

For medical students, we provide clinical supervision so you can experience hands on rural medicine.

You could help save a life.

    Conduct research at rural events

Want to conduct important health research?

We are working to understand barriers to good health unique to our rural communities.

The research you will conduct informs our programs and enables us to advocate for rural and remote health needs.

    Represent us at events

We love to be in the community and share information on rural and remote health needs. We could certainly use some help to raise awareness and fundraise at these events.

Check out our events. If you live nearby and want to help out, let us know.

Help with campaigns or admin tasks

Do you have a finance, marketing, fundraising or administration background?

If you are a budding journalist, have social media skills or love organising - you can work with us in our office in Brisbane, or remotely across Queensland.

Wherever you are, we’d love to put your skills to good use!

Consider joining our Board or Committees

Do you have a background in rural health, business or in non-profit organisations?

Consider joining a group of committed medical and business professionals on on Board or one of our advisory committees.

We welcome fresh insights and value your expertise.

“Volunteering is an act of heroism on a grand scale. And it matters profoundly. It does more than help people beat the odds; it changes the odds.”
