Hell of the West

A hellish weekend raising funds for rural and remote communities

It was a hellish weekend – but the atmosphere and support of the community was amazing.

In the true spirit of a rural community, three Goondiwindi locals decided to pay it forward raising funds for Rural Doctors Foundation. The Goondiwindi triathlon club had previously received a defibrillator from Rural Doctors Foundation and they wanted to show their appreciation.

Three doctors from the Goondiwindi Medical Centre – Anna Carswell, Sarah Gleeson and Matt Masel chose to participate in the Hell of the West team event.  It started with Matt swimming 2km in the cold of the morning, Sarah riding 80km through the heat and Anna finishing with a 20km run just when the heat started to feel hellish!

Their efforts raised over $5,000 which was used to purchase a COVID Medihood for the protection of another rural community.

Their efforts demonstrate their community to community and to improving the health of rural communities everywhere!
