Dr Alex Dunn

Director | Gympie

I absolutely love the work, and the challenge of rural medicine. For me, there is no other role like rural generalism. You get to practise the full spectrum of medicine where it is really needed in some of the most spectacular places in the world. It is so rewarding to work where there is a need and try to make a difference.”

Dr Alex Dunn is a Rural Generalist with an advanced skill in anaesthetics, working as Medical Superintendent at Gympie Hospital. Alex was in the first Queensland Rural Generalist Pathway intern cohort and was also a Queensland Health Rural Scholarship Scheme recipient.

Alex completed a Bachelor of Science, followed by a Medical Degree at the University of Queensland, graduating in 2005, before undertaking his core rural training and Advanced Skills Training (AST) in anaesthetics at the Sunshine Coast Hospital.

He spent two years in Cooktown and then headed further north to Weipa where he served as the Western Director of Medical Services for seven years.

Alex relocated to the Gympie region in 2018, where he lives with his wife and three daughters. .
