Stronger rural towns
Your tax deductible gift helps keep care local in rural communities across Australia
In Charleville, a small town in outback Queensland, Mayor Shaun Radnedge, known locally as “Zoro”, speaks with pride that comes from a lifetime of living and serving his community.
Charleville is resilient, close‑knit and proud. But like many rural towns, it faces a challenge that quietly affects everything else: keeping healthcare professionals in the community.
“We work hard to make Charleville a safe, liveable place,” Shaun explains. “But health, that’s the biggest thing. If we start losing healthcare practitioners, it’s a domino effect. It doesn’t just affect the hospital or the GP clinic. It affects the whole community.”
Charleville is not alone. This same challenge is playing out in rural and remote communities across Australia – where access to healthcare often depends on a small number of people showing up every day. They work long hours, carry heavy emotional loads, and too often put their own health last, simply so their communities don’t go without care.
That’s why GPs4RuralDocs matters
GPs4RuralDocs delivers confidential, independent healthcare by a visiting Treating GP directly to the very people who care for rural communities close to where they live and work, so they don’t have to:
- travel hundreds of kilometres for care
- seek help from a colleague, friend or supervisor for confidential health concerns
- delay treatment until burnout or illness forces them to stop working
Delivered through a combination of regular in‑town clinics and telehealth between visits, GPs4RuralDocs ensures care is ongoing, accessible and trusted.
When health professionals are supported to stay well, they’re more likely to stay in their communities, keeping essential healthcare local for everyone.
“You can’t pour from an empty cup. Looking after yourself is pivotal to looking after the community we provide care to.”
